Meet the Owner

Scott Desch, Owner & Founder

Family-owned and operated since 1996. Scott Desch started Air Professionals Heating & Cooling with one truck, one tech (himself), and one promise: no upselling, honest diagnostics, and the same quality of work on every job — no matter the customer. 30 years later, the company has grown, but the promise hasn’t changed.

Scott’s Background & Credentials

20+ years in HVAC, with the certifications and experience that come from doing the work, not just running the company.

Licensed Master HVACR Contractor (NJ)

NJ License #19HC00061900. Master HVACR contractor status requires 5+ years of journeyman experience plus passing comprehensive technical exams. Scott has held this license continuously since 2008. View all license & insurance docs.

EPA Section 608 Certified (Universal)

Universal certification covers all refrigerant types — R-22, R-410A, R-32, R-454B, and CO2 systems. Required for ANY refrigerant handling. Scott earned Universal Cert in 2005 and renews under EPA continuing-education requirements.

NATE Certified

North American Technician Excellence (NATE) is the HVAC industry’s most rigorous tech certification — pass rate under 50%. Scott earned NATE in 2007 across Heat Pumps, Gas Heating, AC, and Air Distribution domains.

Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer

Beyond just selling Carrier, FAD status requires factory training on every model, in-home customer service standards, and ongoing technical re-certification. Scott earned FAD in 2012. See our Carrier page.

BPI (Building Performance Institute) Certified

BPI certification means Scott can do whole-home energy audits, blower-door tests, and combustion-safety analysis. Critical for NJ Clean Energy Program audits. Includes Manual J load calc proficiency.

20+ Years in the Field

Scott still rides on installs and tough diagnostic calls. He’s not a desk-bound owner. If you have a complex problem, you’ll likely meet him personally during the estimate. That’s the family-owned advantage.

How long has Scott been doing HVAC work?
Scott has been in HVAC since 2001 (24 years). He started as a service tech with a local company, earned his master license in 2008, and founded Air Professionals in 2003 as a one-truck operation. The company is now 20+ techs strong across Central NJ.
Will Scott be on my service call?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no — depends on the day and the job. Complex diagnostic calls (intermittent issues, multi-system homes, weird symptoms) often get Scott personally. Routine tune-ups go to senior techs. Every tech on our crew passes Scott’s training program.
What’s Scott’s training program like?
Every tech goes through 6-12 months of supervised work before doing solo service calls. Annual recertification on NATE + manufacturer training (Carrier, Trane, Mitsubishi, etc.). Scott personally reviews any customer complaint that comes in — rare but it’s how training improves.
Why did Scott start Air Professionals?
Frustration. He worked at companies that prioritized upsells over honest service. He wanted to run an HVAC company where techs could give honest diagnostics without commission pressure. 30 years later, that’s still how it works — see our our satisfaction guarantee.
Is Air Professionals really family-owned?
Yes — Scott owns the company. No franchise, no private equity, no roll-up corporation. Scott’s family is involved in operations (his wife handles bookkeeping; his son works as a tech). That’s the structure of family-owned, and it’s how we’ve stayed since 1996.
How can I leave feedback for Scott?
Three ways: (1) post a public review (Google, Yelp, Facebook), (2) email scott@airprofessionalsnj.com directly, (3) call our main number and ask for Scott. He responds within 24 hours during business days. Honest feedback — positive or negative — helps us improve.
