What’s Covered

What’s Covered in a Mini-Split Tune-Up

Every Air Professionals tune-up follows the same documented checklist — exactly what your technician inspects, cleans, and tests on every visit.

01

Wash Each Head’s Filter
We wash and inspect the reusable filter in each head unit — mini-split filters are washable, not replaced.
02

Deep-Clean the Blower Wheel
Remove mold and buildup from the barrel fan.
03

Clean the Indoor Coil
Restore efficiency and quiet operation.
04

Flush & Treat Condensate Drain
Clear the line to prevent clogs and leaks.
05

Inspect Refrigerant Lines & Connections
Check the line-set and fittings for issues.
06

Verify Refrigerant Charge
Confirm proper charge — low charge means a leak to repair, never a top-off.
07

Test Each Zone Independently
Confirm every indoor head heats and cools correctly.
08

Check Electrical & Control Board
Inspect connections and the inverter board.
09

Test Controls & Mode Switching
Verify remotes and heating/cooling changeover.
10

Clean the Outdoor Unit & Coil
Clear debris for full airflow at the condenser.
11

Inspect Mounting & Vibration Pads
Confirm secure, quiet mounting.
12

Check Line-Set Insulation
Protect efficiency and prevent condensation.

Air Professionals provides mini-split maintenance across Hunterdon, Somerset, Mercer, Morris & Warren counties in Central New Jersey. Most tune-ups take 60–90 minutes.

Why it matters

What a mini-split tune-up protects

A ductless mini-split has no central filter — each head unit filters its own room. That makes regular washing and cleaning matter more here than on a ducted system.

Genuinely cleaner air

Mini-splits recirculate each room’s air through the head unit, so a clean, washed filter and coil means cleaner air you actually breathe.

Lower energy bills

A clean head unit cools and heats using less energy — a dirty mini-split strains for the same comfort.

Every zone working

We test each zone on its own, so a weak head unit in one room gets caught before it becomes a no-cool day.

A longer system life

Washing filters, clearing drains, and cleaning coils keeps the system running easy and lasting longer.

Up to 15%

A mini-split’s filter is its only air filtration, so it clogs faster than a ducted system. A clogged filter and dirty coil can push energy use up 15% or more — washing them keeps that efficiency.

Varies by system and usage

Signs you’re due

When to book a mini-split tune-up

A few signs mean a head unit is overdue for a cleaning. Catching them early keeps a small issue from becoming a no-cool day.

Weak or warm airflow

A head unit blowing weak or warm air usually means a clogged filter or dirty coil — an easy tune-up fix.

Water dripping from a head

Mini-split heads drip when the condensate drain clogs — common, and worth clearing before it stains a wall.

Musty smell when it runs

A musty or sour smell from a head points to mold or buildup on the coil and blower wheel — time for a deep clean.

One zone not keeping up

If a single room’s head unit isn’t heating or cooling like the others, that zone needs a look.

Higher energy bills

A creeping bill often means dirty filters and coils are making the system strain.

It’s been over a year

Mini-splits should be professionally cleaned once a year — and filters washed every month or two at home.

How often should I tune up my mini-split?
Once a year for most mini-splits — ideally in spring (cooling) or fall (heating). Heat pumps benefit from twice a year since they run year-round.
What’s included in a mini-split tune-up?
12-point inspection, head-unit and coil cleaning, a full refrigerant charge check, and a condensate-line flush, filter wash, electrical and controls test, and a written report with photos of anything we found.
How long does a tune-up take?
60-90 minutes for a single-system tune-up. Multi-system homes (e.g., AC + heating + mini-splits) take 2-3 hours total.
What if you find something wrong?
If we identify an issue during your mini-split maintenance visit, we’ll explain our findings, review any recommended repairs, and answer your questions. You’ll receive clear recommendations and upfront pricing, with no pressure to move forward with any work.
Do you service every brand?
Yes. Factory-trained on every major brand — Carrier, GE, Lennox, Trane, Rheem, Bryant, Goodman, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu, and more.
