Check first. Clogged filter restricts airflow, freezes the coil, kills cooling. Look at your filter — if you can’t see light through it, swap it. New filter + 24 hours of recovery = often a free fix. Filter swap is part of seasonal maintenance.

Sign: ice on the indoor unit’s copper lines. Cause: airflow restriction (filter) OR low refrigerant. DIY: turn AC off, leave fan ON for 2 hours to melt ice, replace filter, restart. If freezes again = call us.
Outdoor condenser packed with leaves/grass clippings/cottonwood fluff = can’t reject heat. DIY: turn unit OFF, gently hose down the fins from inside out. Don’t bend the fins. If still not cooling, we’ll do a deep coil clean — $250-$450.
Sign: outdoor unit hums but fan doesn’t spin, or fan spins slow. Capacitor stores electrical charge to start the motor. Not DIY — capacitors hold lethal voltage even when power is off. We swap for $300-$500.
