Signs you need service

When it’s time to replace your mini-split

We almost always try repair first. But when these start adding up — or you’re ready to add zones — a new system is the honest call.

10+ years old

Most mini-splits last 12–15 years. Past 10, efficiency drops and inverter parts get harder to find.

Repair cost over 50%

When a repair runs more than half the price of a new system, replacement usually wins within a couple of years.

Adding zones

Want to condition another room? It’s often the right time to step up to a multi-zone system that covers the whole house.

Old refrigerant (R-22/R-410A)

R-22 is banned and R-410A is being phased down now too. Older mini-splits on aging refrigerant get pricier to service.

Indoor heads look or sound dated

Yellowed or noisy older head units drag down both looks and efficiency. New low-profile heads run quieter and cleaner.

Rooms that never get comfortable

If a room is always too hot or cold, the system may be undersized or failing — a properly sized mini-split fixes it.

Straight talk on cost

What a mini-split installation costs

Mini-split pricing is mostly about zones — how many rooms you’re conditioning. In our area, single-zone systems run about $5,000–$7,000 installed, and multi-zone systems generally $10,000–$20,000+ depending on the number of indoor units. A few things move where you land:

Number of zones

Mini-split pricing is mostly per zone — the more rooms you condition, the more indoor units and refrigerant lines.

Efficiency (SEER2)

Higher-SEER2 inverter systems cost more up front but use less energy — they earn it back on every bill.

Cold-climate capability

Cold-climate systems that hold heating output in deep winter cost more than standard cooling-focused units.

Install complexity

Long line-set runs, electrical upgrades, and tricky mounting spots add labor and materials.

Efficiency that pays you back

Why ductless is so efficient

A mini-split sends conditioned air straight to the room — no ductwork to leak through — and inverter compressors ramp instead of cycling. That is a real efficiency edge.

Up to 30%

Traditional ductwork can leak 20–30% of the air it carries. Ductless skips ducts entirely, delivering conditioned air right where you want it.

Room-by-room zoning

Condition only the rooms you’re using, at the temperature each room wants — no cooling or heating empty space.

Inverter compressors

Variable-speed inverters ramp up and down smoothly instead of cycling hard — steadier comfort, far less energy and noise.

Right-sized with Manual J

We size each zone with a load calculation so every head unit performs — oversized units short-cycle and waste energy.

How long does a new mini-split install take?
Most single-system mini-split replacements: one day. Full-system upgrades (HVAC + ductwork) or dual-fuel hybrids: 2-3 days. Exact timeline at your free in-home estimate.
What brands do you install?
We’re a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer and install most major brands — Carrier, GE, Lennox, Trane, Rheem, Bryant, Goodman, and more. We’ll recommend best fit for your home, budget, and efficiency goals.
What about financing and rebates?
Financing is available for qualified homeowners, making it easier to invest in a new mini-split system. Incentive programs change from year to year, so we’ll let you know what currently applies to your install.
What warranty do new installs come with?
New mini-split installs come with manufacturer warranty coverage on parts — typically 10 years on eligible equipment when registered — plus up to 5 years of labor and workmanship support from us.
Do I need to be home for the install?
Yes for the initial walkthrough and final test. You can step out during the install itself. We’ll clean up before we leave — house stays cleaner than we found it.
What size mini-split do I need?
We do a proper Manual J load calculation (square footage, insulation, windows, sun exposure) — not the ‘rule of thumb’ sizing that leads to short-cycling and high bills. Sizing matters.
