We convert oil-heated homes across Hunterdon & Somerset County to high-efficiency natural gas: utility coordination, tank decommissioning guidance, equipment sizing, rebates and 0% financing — handled start to finish.
Why homeowners convert
Hunterdon and Somerset County still have thousands of oil-heated homes. Most of the conversions we do come down to five things:
Natural gas has cost less per BTU than heating oil for years, and gas prices don’t swing with every delivery. Most converted homes see a noticeable drop in winter bills.
Gas arrives by pipe. No watching the tank gauge in January, no emergency delivery fees, no waiting for a truck during a storm.
Aging buried and basement tanks can leak, and cleanup is expensive. Converting lets you decommission the tank properly and close that chapter for good.
A modern gas furnace runs at 95–96.6% AFUE and a modern gas boiler well above older oil units — more of every dollar becomes heat in the house.
Elizabethtown Gas offers $1,500 for new customers who convert plus up to $1,750 in equipment rebates and 0% on-bill financing. PSE&G customers have their own efficient-gas rebates. We confirm what applies to your address.
How it works
A conversion touches the utility, the tank, and your heating equipment. Here’s the order we run it in so nothing stalls:
We confirm whether a gas main runs on your street and what the utility charges (if anything) to bring service to the house. Elizabethtown Gas and PSE&G both have new-customer programs that can cover or reduce the service line.
We size the new system with a proper heat-load calculation, look at your ductwork or boiler piping, venting, and where the gas meter will land. You get written options at the owner-confirmed price tiers — no surprises.
We file the conversion and rebate paperwork with your utility and line up 0% financing if you want it, so the incentives are locked in before work starts.
Your oil tank gets pumped, cleaned, and either removed or abandoned in place by a licensed tank contractor we coordinate with, with the paperwork your township and future buyers will ask for.
Same crew removes the oil equipment, sets the new high-efficiency gas furnace or boiler, connects to the meter, and commissions the system. Most homes are back in heat the same day the equipment goes in.
Thinking electric instead? For homes that want off fossil fuels entirely, a cold-climate heat pump with JCP&L Clean Comfort rebates of up to $10,000 is the other conversion path — we’ll walk you through both.
Three moving parts — utility service, the tank, and the new equipment. Tank removal by a licensed contractor typically runs $1,500–$3,000 in our area; we quote it separately so you see every line.
